Latest colour trends: Colours that are going to be huge in 2021

Colour trends play a major role in shaping the entire design industry. And so, once again this year, we have been eagerly waiting for the colour institutes, Pantone and Dulux, to announce their colour of the year. After all, this announcement has an enormous impact on the world of interior design. Moreover, it also reflects what is on our minds in today's world and gives a glimpse of tomorrow. So, let's take a look together at the colours of 2021.

Powerful & optimistic: Pantone chooses an exciting duo as the colour of the year 2021

Pantone has chosen two shades, "Illuminating" and "Ultimate Gray", as the colours of the year 2021. The combination is aspirational and gives us hope. We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter – this is essential to the human spirit.

Despite all the contrasts, the combination of the two colours results in an inspiring mix: the ensemble of intensely bright yellow and calm grey is intended to accompany us through the coming year with an "encouraging message of strength and hope", according to the colour institute.

In a time of persistent uncertainty, the lively shade of yellow spreads optimism gives courage and triggers a pleasant feeling of warmth. The clear grey, on the other hand, stands for calm deliberation. It evokes associations with solid stone, with reliable elements that last a long time and provide security.

Because the two colours complement each other so wonderfully, the combination is ideally suited for use in our four walls. Grey in grey looks elegant instead of dreary when the noble look is deliberately loosened up by yellow accents. And against a grey backdrop, yellow home accessories such as vases, cushions or lamps come into their own all the better.

Even a single yellow armchair in the middle of a grey sofa landscape can be a great eye-catcher. And at the workplace, the combination of the two colours is both inspiring and promotes concentration.

On the wall, the sunny Illuminating Yellow provides positive energy in the room, both as a single stripe and over the entire surface. Light switches, such as the Gira E2 grey matt create a harmonious contrast with their characteristic design.

Warm & durable: An earthy tone for the year 2021 at Dulux

The colour experts at Dulux have also made their choice for Colour of the Year 2021: With "Brave Ground", they are relying entirely on the familiar power of nature for the new season. The warm, earthy brown tone has a balancing and calming effect. It creates a stable foundation – and gives us a good feeling of having safe ground under our feet. The colour conveys stability and courage – and thus helps us to accept change.

Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director at Dulux UK, describes Brave Ground as a colour that "will allow us to find certainty in the strength from the very ground beneath our feet, emboldening us to go forward and begin to live again and giving us the flex to adapt to the ever-changing circumstances we face." The versatile neutral shade has depth, yet takes a back seat to itself, allowing other colours to shine – making it ideal for interior design.

Furnishing with Brave Ground: How to bring the colour of the year 2021 into your home.

Brave Ground can be perfectly combined with expressive shades of pink and red. This confident combination harmonises particularly well with modern furniture, graphic patterns and light-coloured floors. If you like a natural furnishing style with wood and basket elements, ceramics and plants, earthy green or deep blue are suitable colour partners.

By the way, since calm neutral tones like Brave Ground create a good learning atmosphere, the colour also fits very well in the work area.

Light switches and socket outlets from the Gira Esprit Linoleum Multiplex series are a harmonious complement to a wall in Brave Ground. There are two earthy natural colours to choose from, which, with their light birch wood base, look their best on the Dulux Colour of the year.
