Black interior: Inspiration for timeless home styling

Black is timeless, stylish and never fails to make an impact: It shines in any setting and puts a sophisticated finishing touch on any interior style. Paired with bold reds, sublime deep blues or monochrome pieces in white and light grey, accessorising your home with black needn’t be a leap into the dark.

Black highlights: Desk and pendant lights by Tom Dixon

The symmetrical silhouettes of the streamlined conical shades and shapely curved pendants of the Beat Collection by Tom Dixon provide direct and focused light.

The solid brass pendant lights become an eye-catching focal point of the room, whether installed as a standalone statement piece or as part of a wider lighting concept. The matt black shade stands in stark contrast to the warm, golden light inside.

The London-based designer label has also created black versions of its pendant and desk lights. The black coating intensifies the light effect, testing the boundaries of light strength, semi-transparency and reflection.

Monochrome statement pieces: Black Book by Pulpo

With its Black Book, German label Pulpo has once again proven that versatility is one of the key strengths of the black interior concept. Renowned designers for the brand have reinterpreted their ideas to create an exclusive collection. The pure white side table Trio by Julian Appelius has been joined by a black counterpart. The Madison bar trolley by Michael Schmidt is constructed in elegant stainless steel with coloured glass and a black wooden drawer. Sebastian Herkner opted for a dark glass casing for his unique Oda, Boule and Stella lamps, and continued his ode to the dark side in the designs for his Delight table and Pallet day bed.

Black metal: Dark inspiration from Petite Friture

French label Petite Friture used this year’s Salone del Mobile as an opportunity to showcase not only its latest designs, such as its Loop shelves and new coffee tables, but also to present established designs in a new light.

The designers bent, knotted and joined black metal rods and strips to form functional pieces such as the matt black Hollo Coffee Table.

Back to black: Form and function with the String shelving system

The ever-popular String shelving system is designed to be useful above all else. The flexible storage system, designed by Nisse Strinning, has been a well-known and loved design classic since the end of the 1940s. The streamlined design has been continually developed by the Swedish architect and designer and his company String, which has produced numerous other furniture designs and interior accessories in the unmistakeable String style. Its multi-purpose shelving is just as at home in the kitchen as it is integrated into a home office setup. A matt black version completes the range of white and wood models.

One colour – countless functions: The new Gira switch range

The new Gira Studio design line creates stunning dynamic contrasts on static walls. The rounded shape of the cover frame combines with the square switch to create an exciting interplay of shape and form. The highlight of the design line is the high-gloss black glass model.

The established Gira E2 design line is also getting an update this year, with an exclusive new design in matt black.

Both design lines can be integrated with more than 300 functions from Gira System 55, enabling you to use smart building technology in a way that suits your home and your requirements. Both new design lines will be available from October 2018.

Whether you prefer subtle matt or polished to a high-gloss finish, black puts the focus on form and function. Black interior design inspiration exudes sophistication and timeless elegance.
